Cruise, with your native captain, along the expansive inner coastline of Assateague Island where the wild ponies live.
The Scenic Tour aboard a 6 passenger pontoon boat begins by navigating around the southern end of Chincoteague Island and heading to the backside of Assateague Island. We will seek out and observe the Wild Ponies in their native habitat. You will enjoy listening to local history and information on Assateague and Chincoteague Island. Wildlife sightings along the way may include bald eagle, shorebirds, and dolphins.
Wild Ponies have inhabited Assateague Island for hundreds of years. We know the best spots on the Assateague coastline for pony viewing and we’ll take you there.
In recent years wildlife management officials have built miles of fencing along the roadways on Assateague to keep the ponies off the roadway and protect them from getting hit by vehicles. Numerous pony bands (families) roam extensive areas of Assateague Island that cannot be seen from the roads on Assateague.
As well as making every effort to get up close with the wild ponies you will encounter many different shore birds, bald eagles and osprey. Learn some local legend and lore about the islands of Assateague and Chincoteague. See aquaculture farms and learn how they benefit our ecosystem. So much nature and beauty to be seen.
Pony-Nature tours are approximately 2 hours long. Times may run over based on on wildlife cooperation.
