Our typical tours run 2 hours but sometimes extend to 2.5 hours. This can happen on occasion due to speed of travel stops or unexpected occurrences. Every tour is unique and unpredictable with wildlife and more. We do not recommend making any plans directly following the tour. We don’t want to make you late for your dinner reservation.

We do our best to get up close to the ponies. We know where they like to graze and have very good odds of getting up close to them. However, they are wild animals and as such, they will not always be up close. Sometimes, you will need binoculars to see them. Very rarely, maybe 1% of the time, they just are not anywhere to be seen.

The Chincoteague ponies are wild. There is no better or worse time to see them. Sometimes they will go for an early morning swim, and sometimes they graze in the middle of the field. Our seasoned captains know them well and give you the best shot any time of day to find them.

We run year-round. In the winter, you will see the ponies in a whole new way. They have thick winter coats. Seeing the ponies in the snow and ice is a truly unique and beautiful experience. Mind you, it is cold to be on the boat, so bundle up like you are going skiing.

We ask that you show up for the scheduled boat tour unless we have called you ahead of time to cancel. Sometimes we cannot make our final call until close to tour time but we try to avoid that. We watch the weather closely and have the best ways of judging by experience whether to depart or not. We always want you to have a good time on the water and be comfortable. Sometimes, we have option to tweak our departure time to allow a storm to pass. But if we feel like there may be a safety concern due to the severity of the storm, we will first try reschedule with you and if we cannot find a good time for you offer a full refund. I highly suggest booking your tour ahead of your trip this ensures your seat on the boat which sometimes sells out. Then check the weather the week of your reservation once it arrives. If you are worried call to be moved or get suggestions on how to make sure you get your best day on the water when you are here.
-
We have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you cannot make a scheduled tour, please call us 24 hours in advance or you will be charged the full ticket price plus the credit card fee.

On our smaller 6 passenger boats every child regardlesss of age requires a ticket. Our max is 6 people per Coast Guard regulations, they count souls not weight or age. We are very limited in our seating capacity.
On our large passenger boats Children 2 and under are free. We recommend the larger boat for families partly due to the free ticket for younger children but also because of the on board bathroom.
